Angels Vote Adenhart Estate Full Playoff Share

The Angels have voted to give a full postseason share to the estate of Nick Adenhart. Adenhart, a rookie pitcher, was killed in April in a car accident that was allegedly caused by a drunken driver. The Angels' shares were worth $138,039.

Average Salary Just Short Of $3M

The average baseball salary fell just short of $3 million this past season. The 926 players in the major leagues before rosters expanded in September averaged $2,996,000, according to the annual report of the players' association. The figures represent a 2.4 percent jump from last year's numbers, the lowest increase since the 2004 season. The World Series champion Yankees had the highest average at $7.66 million per player.

Sizemore: Photos Stolen From Girlfriend

Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore has contacted Major League Baseball to help him stop publication of steamy photographs. Sizemore says the photos were stolen from his girlfriend's e-mail account and then posted online. "We fully support Grady as he deals with this personal matter," the Indians said in a statement Monday. "The posted photos were stolen from his girlfriend's e-mail account and a legal investigation is under way." He is partially nude in some of the photos.

McGee May Be Headed To Rays' Bullpen

Rays prospect Jake McGee has recovered from Tommy John surgery and could be headed to the team's bullpen. He had the elbow reconstruction surgery in July 2008. McGee is throwing 95 mph and says that his changeup is better than ever. He is being told that Tampa Bay sees him as a fit in the bullpen. "I'd like that role a lot, actually," he told the St. Petersburg Times. "Just the adrenaline going out and knowing I have only one inning for three outs. Pitch for pitch, I can give it all I got."

Ricketts Officially Assume Control Of Cubs

The Ricketts family officially assumed control of the Cubs on Tuesday upon the closing of its $845 million deal with the Tribune Co. The sale allows Tribune, which has owned the franchise since 1981, to retain a five percent stake in the team to reduce taxes by an estimated $300 million. Tribune paid $20.5 million for the Cubs in 1981. "My family and I are thrilled that this day has finally come, and we thank commissioner Bud Selig and Major League Baseball owners for approving our ownership," Tom Ricketts said in a released statement. "Now we will go to work building the championship tradition that all Cubs fans so richly deserve."

Moyer Doing Well After Minor Surgery

The Phillies have announced that pitcher Jamie Moyer is doing well after surgery on Friday. Moyer had to be hospitalized on Tuesday following symptoms from sports hernia surgery on Oct. 2. "Jamie is doing very well," Phillies physician Michael Ciccotti said in a statement. "The surgery is not likely to impact his rehab schedule and is likely to have minimal impact on his spring training schedule." He was hospitalized just five days after the initial surgery because of a blood infection.

Young Wants Texas Owner Committed To Winning

Michael Young wants the next owner of the Texas Rangers to be committed to winning. "Whoever gets the team is doing it because they want to see this team win, otherwise they're not going to get involved," Young told the Star-Telegram. "Whoever comes out and gets the team knows that we had a productive year last year and we're getting better. So, hopefully, that owner can be the guy to push us forward, push to make us better." Young has been with the Rangers since 2000. Texas had the 22nd-highest Opening Day payroll in 2009.

Pirates pitcher Ross Ohlendorf is spending the offseason as an intern in Washington D.C. Ohlendorf graduated from Princeton University with a degree in operations research and financial engineering. The right-hander had a 3.8 college GPA and scored a 1520 on his SATs. The 27-year-old is working in the Agriculture Department. "I've really enjoyed it," he said. "In addition to learning a lot of things and meeting a lot of neat people, I've gotten to do some cool events too."
